About Bellatrix Salvare

Our sweet and playful Bellatrix Salvare is one of the last dogs with us that came from the horrible hoarding situation at the beginning of the year. On top of the deplorable conditions she came from, she had a severe injury to her rear left paw from a metal foot hold trap (like a small bear trap). The injury went untreated and left Bellatrix with an infected and mangled paw. Despite rounds of antibiotics and topical treatments hoping the foot would heal, it became clear that the area will always be a problem for her and her mobility. Today, Bellatrix had her rear left leg amputated to give her the best quality of life going forward. Once she recovers from the surgery, we know that being a tripod will not slow her down. Despite the unthinkable Bella has been through, she has ALWAYS had a happy attitude. She is friends with everyone she meets and will immediately flop over for belly rubs. Bellatrix would be a wonderful family dog to an active family that has time to play in the back yard or go on adventures. She loves playing her version of fetch with sticks and exploring new things. Bella is estimated to be around a year old and is just under forty pounds. We think she may be a Carolina Dog mix with her red coat and pointy ears.

While Bellatrix recovers from surgery, we are looking for a foster or foster to adopt home to help her through the next few weeks. We expect her to do very well following surgery and will need a couple of rechecks with our vet. If you're able to open your home up to this sweet girl, please call us at (704) 784-7387 to make an appointment to come meet her.
