About Pepper Shelley (DR6118)

Pepper is an almost two year old sweet shepherd mix girl that was adopted out from us as a puppy. She was recently returned because her adopter could no longer care for her due to their health. Now, Pepper is back in an unfamiliar place and trying to settle back in while looking for her new family. Pepper is trying her best to handle the stress of the shelter environment but desperately needs an understanding adopter to provide her a quiet and secure home. In the moments that Pepper lets her true personality come out with her trusted friends at the shelter she is a vibrant, loving, and affectionate dog that is just looking for a moment to spend with a friend. Pepper has an aversion to leashes and will sometimes react negatively to them. It almost as if she thinks they are going to harm her and she has to defend herself from them before they can do so. A couple of her friends here have shown her that they and the leash mean no harm and she'll snuggle up to them and let them leash her without any issues. As long as you go slow with Pepper and show her that you can be trusted, she'll be your bestfriend. Pepper loves to play and would benefit from a fenced in back yard - not only so she can run her little heart out, but also to limit her interactions with leashes. Pepper may even do well with other dogs, she would just need a meet and greet prior. It would be best for Pepper to be in a mature household, free of small children, as their quick movements and grabby hands may be too much for her.
